Kim Kardashian may be stepping into a new chapter of her already closely watched fashion career.
Celebrity stylist Law Roach confirmed that Kardashian is his newest client following her appearance Saturday night at the opening celebration for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles. Roach, whose work with Zendaya has helped create some of the most recognizable red carpet moments of the past decade, styled Kardashian for the high profile evening.
Kardashian arrived at the Exposition Park event wearing an archival Yves Saint Laurent look designed by Tom Ford for the Fall 2004 collection. The fitted black gown featured intricate floral detailing and offered the kind of dramatic vintage fashion moment that has become increasingly popular on major red carpets.
Roach later shared footage of Kardashian and publicly referred to her as a new client, effectively confirming their professional partnership. Vogue also identified the museum appearance as the first time Roach styled Kardashian.
The partnership immediately drew attention because of Roach’s reputation for creating long term fashion narratives rather than simply dressing stars for individual appearances. His collaboration with Zendaya has produced everything from futuristic couture to archival Hollywood inspired looks, often tying fashion directly to a movie, character or cultural moment.
Kardashian is certainly no stranger to using fashion as part of her public image. Over the years she has worked with some of the industry’s most influential designers and stylists while transforming SKIMS into a global fashion and lifestyle business.
Her appearance came just after the opening of the first SKIMS European flagship on Regent Street in London, another significant expansion for the company.
The Los Angeles gala itself brought together an extraordinary collection of entertainment figures. Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Steven Spielberg, Katy Perry and other stars were among those celebrating the museum founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson.
The Lucas Museum officially opens to the public on September 22 in Exposition Park. The institution includes 100,000 square feet devoted to artwork and sits within a 13 acre campus designed around visual storytelling.
For Kardashian, however, one of the night’s biggest stories may have happened before she ever entered the galleries.
